Pune, December 11, 2024 – Residents of Undri have raised serious concerns about the movement of heavy vehicles during school hours, citing risks to children and parents. Despite multiple complaints to authorities, no stringent action has been taken, leaving residents frustrated.

The problem spans the Undri Chowk – NIBM-Kad Nagar Chowk to Hole Wasti Chowk – Mohamadwadi stretch, where heavy vehicular traffic poses a significant danger. With around 12 schools located within a 4-kilometer radius and more than 10,000 students attending, parents fear for their children’s safety.

“The presence of these vehicles during peak school hours is alarming. They not only cause congestion but have also led to several accidents. Many of these vehicles drive recklessly, often at high speeds, making it extremely dangerous for bikers and pedestrians,” said a concerned parent.

Narrow Roads Add To The Woes:
Road From Kad Nagar chowk to Undri chowk is very narrow. Also, the road condition from Bishops School to Sanskriti school is under pathetic condition with no sight of repair in the near future. The work on Hill Green School bridge has been ongoing for more than 6 months with a slow progress. Residents are hoping that PMC takes up the work of road construction on war footing and provides relief to the residents.

Residents have appealed to Pune Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to address the issue. They demand immediate measures to regulate the timing and speed of heavy vehicles to prevent potential mishaps.

As the area continues to grow with increasing school zones and residential developments, residents insist on swift action to ensure safety and prevent further accidents.
