Pune: Uniform Property Tax Structure For All Citizens In PMC Limits, Assures Minister Madhuri Misal
Pune, June 26, 2025
Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal has assured that a uniform property tax structure will be implemented across all citizens residing within Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, including those from the newly merged villages. The aim is to ensure equal justice in taxation for all residents.
Misal conducted a review meeting today with PMC officials to assess various ongoing municipal projects. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, she was joined by PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P.
Misal stated, “Residents of the newly merged villages feel they are being charged more tax than what they paid under the Gram Panchayat system. This has led to lower-than-expected revenue collection from those areas. The PMC should send a detailed proposal to the state government suggesting a tax structure that ensures fairness to all citizens. The government will approve such a proposal.”
She further added, “The review included the Urban Development Department, Social Welfare Department, and PMPML. In view of the floods in Pune over the last two years, emergency preparedness was discussed. The Central Government has sanctioned ₹80 crore for emergency management. The PMC has decided to implement two related projects. Under the AMRUT scheme, drainage works are progressing well.”
Misal shared key project updates:
- Six new STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) projects have been undertaken.
- A total of ten STPs are planned.
- Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, construction of 4,500 houses is proposed.
- Searches are underway for available government land, as housing land availability in Pune is limited. Authorities are also exploring expanding the scheme to other nearby areas where land is more accessible.
Regarding tax recovery, Misal noted a high volume of arrears. “Penalties on overdue taxes have increased the backlog. So far, ₹950 crore has been recovered.”
Other key points from the review:
- Streetlight infrastructure was also assessed.
- A 50 MW solar project is proposed, which can meet the municipal body’s public electricity needs.
- 200 new electric buses will be procured shortly.
- Under the National Green Air Programme, PMC has received ₹350 crore.
- A ₹200 crore proposal has been submitted to build boundary walls in certain areas of the city under the Urban Development Department.
Misal concluded by emphasizing the importance of cohesive and efficient project execution to enhance urban infrastructure and services in Pune.
