Pune, March 20, 2026: A spell of unseasonal rain has brought much-needed relief from rising temperatures in Pune, even as several parts of Maharashtra reported heavy rainfall and hailstorms causing damage.

For the second consecutive day, light showers in different parts of Pune reduced the intensity of the heat. The city experienced a mix of sunshine and cloudy skies through the afternoon, followed by cool breezes in the evening, creating pleasant weather conditions. This provided relief to residents who stepped out for shopping during Gudi Padwa.

Nearby areas such as Bhor, Velhe, and Nasrapur witnessed more intense rainfall, while parts of the city received scattered showers. On Thursday afternoon, localities including Kothrud, Karvenagar, Warje Malwadi, and Sinhagad Road recorded brief spells of rain, although central market areas remained largely dry.

The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 34°C, while the minimum dropped to 19.4°C. Lohgaon reported the highest temperature at 36.3°C. The cloud cover helped ease the earlier heatwave-like conditions that had troubled residents over the past week.

Other districts, including Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, also experienced rainfall, while Latur reported hailstorms. The sudden weather change has raised concerns among farmers, particularly in rural areas where standing crops such as onions and wheat have suffered damage.

Weather experts explained that such localized rainfall is typical during summer, as smaller cloud formations lead to scattered showers rather than widespread rain. The India Meteorological Department has forecast partly cloudy skies over the next two days, with a possibility of thunderstorms and light rain in isolated areas.
