Pune : Upgraded Smart Cards with Enhanced Quality to be Rolled Out to Citizens from July 1
Pune RTO to begin crackdown on vehicles with out-of-state registration numbers
In a bid to streamline services and provide better quality documentation, the local Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Pune have announced the issuance of upgraded smart cards for vehicle owners.
Starting from July 1, citizens will be able to obtain the new smart cards, which are set to replace the existing ones. This development comes as a relief to thousands of vehicle owners in Maharashtra who have been eagerly awaiting their new RC (vehicle registration certificate) books and permanent licenses.
The state transport department has taken measures to expedite the production of smart cards. They have planned to print approximately 45,000 smart cards daily, ensuring a smooth and efficient process for the issuance of new RC books and permanent licenses.
The new smart cards boast a superior format, offering better quality and reduced costs compared to their predecessors. These upgraded cards will be exclusively available at three RTO offices in the state, namely Pune, Mumbai, and Nagpur.
To ensure top-notch quality, the state transport department has awarded the new contract for the supply of smart cards to Manipal Technology Company, based in Karnataka. This marks a shift from the previous contract with a Hyderabad-based company.
Key features of the new smart cards include the utilization of laser engraving techniques, resulting in clear and sharp printing. The name and photo on the cards will be distinct and non-blurry, enhancing readability and identification. Additionally, the use of polycarbonate material ensures durability and longevity.
From July 1 onwards, citizens can look forward to acquiring these enhanced smart cards, streamlining their vehicle registration and licensing processes while enjoying improved quality and durability.
