Pune, October 21, 2025: With the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections likely to take place by January, several local leaders have already started gearing up for the political battlefield. Former corporator Vasant More, known for his dynamic presence in the PMC, appears to have begun his preparations too — but this time, with a twist. Alongside his own political readiness, More seems to be hinting at his son Rupesh’s political debut.

On October 21, which marks Rupesh More’s birthday, Vasant More shared a heartfelt midnight post on social media that has triggered strong political speculation. “When I first became a corporator in 2007, you were in first grade. For 15 years, you’ve seen the color of my victories in every municipal election. But this time, the color of victory will be yours — that’s the will of Katraj’s guardian deity, Shri Kalbhairavnath. Wishing you a very happy birthday, Rupesh Vasant More,” he wrote.

By combining the festive occasion of Diwali and his son’s birthday, Vasant More seems to have sent a clear signal that his son is likely to enter electoral politics soon.

Having won three consecutive terms as a corporator in Pune, Vasant More’s next move — whether to contest for a fourth time or back his son in the upcoming polls — has become a topic of keen interest. Though the PMC elections have been delayed for three years, More’s popularity among citizens remains strong, making another victory likely if he contests. However, he may choose to pass on his ward seat to Rupesh, following the principle of “one ticket per family,” and instead focus on a larger political role.

Vasant More, who initially represented the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in the PMC, has since joined the Thackeray faction. Earlier, he also contested the Lok Sabha elections as a Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi candidate, securing a noteworthy vote count. Political observers are now watching closely to see if the support More commands in Pune will extend to his son’s anticipated political entry.
