Pune: Residents of Viman Nagar today, held Rasta Roko at Datta Mandir chowk against the Pune Municipal Corporation failing to provide adequate water supply to the area. For the past four days, the residents of the area are battling against poor water supply. The leakages caused in the Bhama Askhed water pipeline has added to the woes of the residents.

Thomas Matthew, a resident, Konark Campus, Viman Nagar Pune said “The water supply has been cut entirely in Konark Campus and the entire area of Viman Nagar since the last 4 days.  We are facing a lot of problems due to it. We have requested the PMC to resolve it. However, we haven’t received any response so far..”

The residents held rasta roko and demanded that PMC should fix the water supply problems and provide adequate water supply. If PMC is not able to provide alternate arrangement must be made by PMC itself.

Adv Aarti Sonagara, Founder and President, Nagar Road Citizens Forum, said, “Viman Nagar residents are surrounded by problems. Leakages in water pipelines have resulted in wastage of water. The private water tankers are also unable to provide water because the borewells have dried up. Senior citizens are affected the most. PMC should take concrete steps soon to fix the leakages in the pipes.”

Arjun Jagtap, President, Viman Nagar Residents’ Association said, “The water supply in the entire Viman Nagar area has been cut for 4 days. It is due to Bhama-Askhed dam repair work. The PMC officials have informed us that they have completed the repair work now and the water supply will be restored soon.”When Pune Pulse spoke to the head of water supply department, PMC, Aniruddha  Pawaskar he informed that the work to fix leakages in pipeline was held on Thursday since the pipe needs to be dried.
