Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will join hands with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (Maha Vitaran) to trace and take action against property tax holders who are paying residential tax despite using their properties commercially. It is worthy to note that property taxes are different for residential and commercial use.

As per information, Maha Vitaran (MSEDCL) will provide information to PMC about the consumers who use their residential properties commercially. The civic body will begin an investigation and take action against them accordingly.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ajit Deshmukh, Head of PMC Tax Department said, “It has come to the fore that various residential property holders use their properties for commercial purposes. Hence, despite having commercial meters installed in such properties, they pay property tax for using the properties residentially. It is worthy to note that the property tax prices are different for commercial & residential properties. Thus, we  have collaborated with Maha Vitaran to get information on such properties and begin an investigation.”

As per information shared by Vikram Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner during a media interaction, various efforts are being made by the PMC to collect property tax. Meanwhile, residential property holders who are using their properties for commercial purposes should inform and pay tax accordingly. Otherwise, legal action will be taken against such individuals along with levying a triple tax on them.
