Pune: Viman Nagar Residents Raise Safety Concerns Over Late-Night Nuisance, Illegal ParkingĀ
Pune, April 13, 2026: Residents of Ganga Hamlet and Oakwoods Co-operative Housing Societies in Viman Nagar have raised serious concerns over growing safety and civic issues in their locality, citing frequent late-night nuisance activities and illegal parking.
In a joint representation, residents stated that both societies are located at the end of a dead-end internal road, which has increasingly become a gathering spot during evenings and late nights for individuals allegedly involved in alcohol consumption, drug-related activities, and disruptive behaviour. This has created an atmosphere of fear, particularly among women, children, and senior citizens, who now feel unsafe stepping out after dark.
Residents have attributed the situation largely to violations of P1/P2 parking norms in the area. They alleged that nearby restaurants use the road for valet parking, leading to heavy congestion. The problem intensifies during events at the PMC International Skating Rink, when the entire stretch is reportedly used for parking, further encouraging such activities.
The situation is aggravated by individuals from nearby areas who deliberately park large vehicles, including SUVs, in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic movement. Residents claim that when confronted, these individuals often respond aggressively and issue threats.
According to residents, similar issues had been addressed temporarily in mid-2025 when locals began confronting offenders. However, over the past two months, the problem has resurfaced, with increased instances of intimidation against those raising objections.
Multiple complaints have been lodged with authorities seeking increased police patrolling, strict enforcement of parking rules, and action against unlawful activities. Despite repeated follow-ups and meetings, residents allege that no permanent solution has been implemented. They also claim that calls to the emergency helpline 112 have not resulted in timely intervention.
The ongoing situation has also impacted security personnel, with guards reportedly feeling unsafe during night shifts due to threats and warnings of property damage by miscreants.
Residents have shared photographic and video evidence of the violations and have appealed for urgent attention to ensure safety and restore order in the area.
