Pune: Residents of Viman Nagar have been in distress due to several potholes on the road near various nearby societies like Hermes Dorme, Gokul Gardens, Archana Heights etc. for a long time.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Krupali Bhatt, Resident of Hermes Dorme, Viman Nagar said, “We are literally fed up of this huge potholes issue on the road near our society for a long time. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) comes, does temporary patchwork for beautification & goes without any concrete solution. After some days, the patching gets disturbed again leading to the creation of worse potholes than earlier. It is a nightmare driving on this pothole-laden road. Also, nearby drainage keeps leaking frequently, contributing to the poor condition of the road as well as unbearable stink.”

Sajid Attarwala,  a resident of Hermes Dorme, Viman Nagar said, “The potholes are so huge that several people have fallen brutally while driving. The drainage leak adds to this menace as well. Also, nearby street lights remain shut frequently which has made driving on this road nightmarish.”

Deepaksingh Rajput, a resident of Gokul Gardens, Viman Nagar said, “Driving has become almost impossible on this road. PMC, as always, simply comes and does patching work but the road again develops worse potholes after some days. No concrete solution has been implemented.”

Qaneez Sukhrani, Pune City Activist, stated that these potholes have occurred after the recent heavy downpour. It is the same case after every downpour for the past three years. They have tolerated enough, now no more. Sukhrani has noticed an excavator taking off layers in some spots. Due to the PMC not applying logic & the correct technique, these potholes form again and again. Sukhrani has filed many complaints to the PMC regarding this earlier as well, however, no concrete action has been taken yet.

Pune Pulse tried to contact the relevant officer of the PMC road department but couldn’t connect till the filing of this report.
