Pune: ‘Vrukshathon Marathon 2025’ To Promote Tree Plantation and Environmental Awareness On June 1
On the occasion of World Environment Day, observed globally on June 5, a special event—the Vrukshathon Marathon 2025—will be organized on June 1, 2025, through a joint initiative by Pune Police, the Forest Department Pune, and the Vrukshathon Foundation, Pune.
This marks the 4th successful year of the Vrukshathon Marathon, which was first launched in 2018. The primary goal of the marathon is to raise awareness among citizens about tree plantation and environmental conservation. More than 10,000 participants from across India are expected to take part in this year’s event.
Every participant will receive a free sapling from the Forest Department along with guidance on its care and nurturing.
The marathon will be held in four categories:
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 10 km
- 21 km (Half Marathon)
Participants will be grouped into four age categories:
- 18 to 30 years
- 31 to 45 years
- 46 to 60 years
- 61 years and above
Eco-friendly prizes such as electric bikes, electric cycles, and prizes worth lakhs of rupees will be awarded to winners.

Route Details:
3 km Route:
Start: Pune Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar → Chafekar Chowk → E-Square → Chatushrungi Chowk → U-turn → Finish at Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar
5 km Route:
Start: Pune Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar → Chafekar Chowk → E-Square → Chatushrungi Chowk → NCL Mandir → U-turn → Finish at Abhimanshree, Shivajinagar
10 km Route:
Start: Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar → Pashan Road → Abhimanshree → NCL Mandir → DRDO Gate → U-turn → Return via same route → Finish at Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar
21 km Route (Half Marathon):
Start: Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar → Chafekar Chowk → E-Square → Chatushrungi Chowk → Pashan Road → Bavdhan → Chandani Chowk → U-turn → DRDO Gate → Pashan Circle → NCL Mandir → Abhimanshree → Finish at Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar
Participant Amenities:
All participants will be provided with a T-shirt, bib, goodie bag, snacks, and a water bottle. Hydration points will be installed at various locations along the route. Ambulances, medical teams, and volunteers will be stationed for emergency assistance. Directional signboards will also be placed along the routes for ease of navigation.
Traffic Advisory:
Traffic on the marathon routes will be diverted or regulated on June 1, 2025, by the Pune City Traffic Department. Detailed alternate route information will be shared soon.
All environment enthusiasts and runners from Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, and across India are invited to participate in large numbers and support this noble cause of tree plantation and nature conservation.
