Pune: Wagholi Residents Announce Hunger Strike On June 15 Over Drainage Woes, Demand PMC Action
Pune, June 14, 2025:
In a strong protest against the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) inaction on long-standing drainage issues, Anil Kumar Mishra from Team Wagholi Against Corruption (Team WACO) has announced an indefinite hunger strike to be held at Ivy Estate Road, Wagholi, starting at 10 AM on Sunday, June 15.
The residents of Ivy Estate Road have been battling chronic drainage overflow problems for several years. Whether it’s monsoon or summer, overflowing sewage, unbearable stench, and unsanitary conditions have made daily life difficult, leading to growing health concerns. Despite repeatedly filing complaints, citizens allege that PMC has failed to provide any permanent solution.
Frustrated with this continued negligence, Mishra and local residents have decided to stage an “Aamaran Anshan” (indefinite hunger strike) to jolt the civic body into action. The protest is not only about one road or one neighborhood, the organizers emphasized, but a fight for every responsible citizen who deserves dignified living conditions.
The demands put forth by the protesters include:
- Permanent repair and regular cleaning of the drainage lines.
- A clear technical solution and dedicated budget allocation for the sewage system.
- Accountability of the concerned PMC officials for the negligence.
The protestors have called upon fellow citizens, social activists, and media representatives to stand in solidarity and amplify their voice.
“We will not suffer in silence any longer. This is a fight for basic civic rights. Ivy Estate Road residents are united, and this protest will continue until PMC wakes up,” said Mishra.
The agitation signals growing discontent among suburban Pune residents over poor civic infrastructure and delayed action by authorities.
