Pune: Wanowrie Citizens Take Initiative to Prevent Accidents; Install Reflectors At Accident-Prone AreaÂ

In a proactive move to address the growing concern over frequent accidents at an unmarked bifurcation on Shivarkar Road near Bank of Maharashtra, citizens of Vanwadi have taken matters into their own hands. Despite repeated appeals to the Vanwadi Municipality’s road department yielding no results, concerned individuals stepped up to install reflectors to mitigate the risk.
The initiative was spearheaded by Eklavya Pratishthan, represented by Prafulla Jambhulkar, who funded the installation of a prominent 7-foot high red and yellow strip reflector at the site. Speaking on behalf of the organization, Jambhulkar emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that numerous accidents had occurred in the past six months due to the lack of proper markings at the junction.
“Citizens have been injured and vehicles damaged because drivers couldn’t anticipate the road’s division,” Jambhulkar stated, reflecting the frustrations of local residents who had witnessed over ten accidents in recent months.
Kevin Manuel, a Wanowrie rom Eklavya Pratishthan expressed relief, stating, “We couldn’t wait any longer. Despite our appeals to the corporation, accidents continued. We hope this reflector will prevent further tragedies.”
Sandeep Jagtap, representing the local NCP chapter, echoed these sentiments, highlighting persistent attempts to engage with PMC officials to no avail. “The constant negligence forced us to take action ourselves. Almost every other day, we heard news of accidents here,” Jagtap lamented.
Local residents who gathered at the installation ceremony expressed gratitude and optimism that the reflector would significantly enhance road safety at the critical junction.
The initiative has drawn attention to the responsibilities of municipal authorities in ensuring public safety on Vanwadi’s roads, prompting discussions on effective governance and citizen participation in community welfare.
