Regular visitors, fitness enthusiasts and senior citizens often come to Vitthalrao Shivarkar garden for a walk. The residents have demanded that the garden timings should be extended to at least till 11 AM. As of now, the regular timings of the garden are 6 AM to 10 AM which makes it difficult for the senior citizens as they come for their walks only around 9 AM.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a regular visitor to the garden, Ashok Shete said, “By the time we come to the garden, it is nearing closing time. We hardly get to walk properly or enjoy the serene atmosphere. We have recently written to the garden department about increasing the time till 11 AM.”

The senior citizen also demanded immediate repair of the streetlights and open gym equipment while also maintaining cleanliness in the garden.

Sham Taru, assistant commissioner, Wanawadi Ramtekdi Ward office on the letter sent by the citizens said that the letter has been sent further to the garden department. “This is the issue which needs to be tackled by the main department. Other issues such as cleanliness have been forwarded to the health department while streetlights and water supply issues have been sent to the concerned department,” she said.

Sunil Walunj, another resident of Wanowrie informed that the garden timings need to be increased as many senior citizens do not come to the garden early in the morning. If this happens, many people across the city can benefit and senior citizens can enjoy the beauty of the public gardens. PMC should ensure that the gardens are kept clean and maintained, he said.
