Pune: Water Likely To Reach Mohammadwadi Storage Tanks By December-End, Says PMC
Pune: PMC Speeds Up Mohammadwadi - NIBM Water Supply Project
Pune, November 21, 2025: Nearly 90% of the 17 km water pipeline from the Vadgaon Water Treatment Plant has been completed. Water Supply Chief Engineer Nandkishor Jagtap has expressed confidence that by resolving the remaining obstacles, water will start reaching the 24×7 water storage tanks in the Mohammadwadi area by the end of December.
The 24×7 water tanks in Mohammadwadi have already been constructed, but the pipeline from the water treatment plant has not yet been connected. Builders showcased these completed drinking water tanks and sold apartments, bungalows, and row houses to citizens. Today, those same residents are struggling due to the lack of water supply. The water crisis in Mohammadwadi and surrounding villages is severe, with daily life dependent on water tankers. Residents pay thousands of rupees in taxes, yet even drinking water has become difficult to access.
There are around 8 to 10 water tanks in the Mohammadwadi area, each with a capacity of 30 lakh litres or 20 lakh litres. To ensure these tanks receive water for local distribution.
Following this, the municipal administration took action and issued a written assurance that water supply to these tanks will begin by the end of December.
Only Then Will Taxes Truly Benefit the Citizens
The combined storage capacity of these tanks is expected to reach 2.20 to 2.50 crore litres. This amount of water can sufficiently meet the drinking water needs of Holkarwadi, Pisoli, Vadachiwadi, Handewadi, and Autadewadi. Mohammadwadi village was incorporated into the municipal limits in 1997, yet the administration has failed to meet the area’s water needs since then.
If water is released into the tanks soon, it will finally justify the taxes paid by the residents.
