Pune Weather : IMD Pune issues Yellow alert for Pune city

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune city, as the city braces for potential weather disruptions. The yellow alert indicates a warning of possible adverse weather conditions that may cause inconvenience and disruption to normal life.

According to the IMD, Pune and its surrounding areas are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the coming days. The weather agency has predicted scattered rain showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds in Pune and nearby regions. The rainfall intensity is expected to be moderate to heavy at times, and the IMD has warned of possible localized flooding, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions in low-lying areas.

MD’s weather forecasting department head Anupam Kashyapi said “As per satellite image,temperature will rise during day and enough moisture incursion as a result of wind discontinuity over isolated to scattered areas of our state result is local instability, formation of cumulonimbus cloud in afternoon evening hours.There is yellow alert for Pune city surrounding area.’’

Anupam Kashyapi further said that, during the period of lightning,talking over phone or standing below a tree is dangerous so avoid it.

The IMD has also advised people to exercise caution and take necessary precautions during the yellow alert period. Residents of Pune are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts, also avoid stepping out in the afternoon to preclude instances of heat exhaustion and hydration.Drive slowly as visibility may reduce and roads may be slippery due to the rain spells.Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong wind.

Avoid going near water bodies during heavy rainfall, and be prepared for any emergency situations. The local authorities have been put on high alert and are closely monitoring the situation.
