Pune Weather Update : Heatwave alert in parts of Maharashtra to prevail for next 72 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune has issued a warning regarding an imminent heat wave in the regions of Marathwada, Vidarbha, and Pune. Citizens are strongly advised to take necessary precautions in response to this alert.

According to the IMD, the next 72 hours are expected to see the highest temperatures recorded this year. The escalating temperatures have made it increasingly difficult for people to venture outdoors during daylight hours, resulting in a noticeable decrease in traffic on the roads. The intense heat has become noticeable as early as 9 o’clock in the morning.

The IMD, Nagpur informed that on May 12 there are conditions of rainfall in the – Vidarbha region, while on May 12 there are no warnings issued but on May 13 Akola and Wardha will experience heat waves. Similarly, heat wave conditions will prevail on May 13 in Akola, Wardha and Chandrapur will experience heatwave and citizens are advised to take precautions while moving out of their house during this period. There will be a rise in minimum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees celsius.  

Pune, along with the rest of Maharashtra state, has been enduring a significant rise in temperature. On May 11, the Koregaon Park area of Pune experienced a peak temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, setting a new record for the city.

Given the severity of the heatwave conditions, authorities are strongly advising individuals to prioritize their well-being by staying properly hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and taking necessary measures to stay cool.
