Pune Weather Update: IMD predicts light rain until November 30
The officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have predicted that Pune and its neighboring regions will experience mild to moderate rainfall until November 30. On Sunday evening, Pune experienced a brief period of rain accompanied by sporadic thunder and lightning.
Within a 30-minute on Sunday, the Shivajinagar observatory of the IMD documented a rainfall of 2.8 mm. In the same duration, Magarpatta, Lavale, and Chinchwad experienced rainfall measuring 2 mm, 1.5 mm, and 1 mm respectively.
Interestingly, the rural areas of Pune witnessed more intense showers. Khed received the highest rainfall with 32.5 mm, followed by Ambegaon with 20 mm and Narayangaon with 10 mm.
According to a senior IMD official, the state has experienced a moisture incursion as a result of the interaction between winds in the easterly and westerly troughs. As a consequence of this climatic scenario, rainfall is anticipated in Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Buldhana, and Akola.
The authorities also forecasted periods of rain and strong winds at specific locations in Raigad, Thane, and Mumbai. IMD officials stated that there is a high likelihood of hailstorms occurring in the northern and northeastern parts of the state, similar to what happened in certain areas of Nashik on Sunday.
According to officials, the city experienced unusually high minimum temperatures, with Shivajinagar reaching 21.3 degrees Celsius, which is 8.2 degrees Celsius above normal, and Lohegaon reaching 21.9 degrees Celsius, which is 7.9 degrees Celsius above normal. However, the temperatures are expected to decrease due to the unexpected rainfall, officials added.
In addition, the Marathwada and Vidharbha regions experienced higher than average temperatures. According to the state agriculture department, grape farmers are expected to suffer significant losses as a result of untimely rainfall. The harvesting stage of grapes makes them particularly vulnerable to damage caused by this unexpected rain, especially in regions where grape cultivation is extensive.
