Pune: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune city, warning of strong thundery activity accompanied by gusty winds and spells of moderate rainfall.
Anurag Kashyapi, Head of Weather Forecasting Pune Division, IMD, has urged citizens to take precautions to stay safe during these weather conditions, which are particularly challenging due to the peak summer temperatures.
To prevent instances of heat exhaustion and dehydration, Kashyapi advised people to avoid stepping out in the afternoons and to drink enough water before leaving their homes. He also cautioned against taking shelter under trees during thundery activity, as trees may fail during intense spells and pose a risk to individuals. In addition, Kashyapi emphasized the importance of avoiding the use of mobile phones and unplugging electronic appliances during periods of lightning.
Gusty winds can be particularly dangerous, and Kashyapi urged people to remove any plant pots from windows or balcony railings, as strong winds can push them off and cause injuries or even fatalities. He also recommended keeping windows and doors closed during periods of strong wind and avoiding travel if possible.
For those who need to drive, Kashyapi advised to drive slowly as visibility may be reduced and roads may be slippery due to the rain spells.
