Pune, June 30, 2026: A wild gaur (Gava) was successfully rescued after becoming trapped in a water pipeline cavity near Janata Vasahat Road in the Sinhagad Road area of Pune. Following the rescue, the animal was shifted to a wildlife rescue centre for medical examination and treatment.

The rescue operation was carried out through coordinated efforts by the Forest Department, wildlife rescue experts from the RESQ team, Pune Police, and other government agencies. Officials said the joint operation ensured the gaur was rescued safely without sustaining any major injuries.

The incident occurred in Ward No. 28 under the Sinhagad Road Regional Office, where the animal reportedly became stuck in the pipeline space. Rescue personnel worked carefully to free the gaur while ensuring its safety and minimising stress during the operation.

Senior officials, including Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the Sinhagad Road Regional Office, Vaghmode, Health Inspector Priyanka Kank, senior police officers, Forest Department officials, Pune Municipal Corporation staff, and the RESQ wildlife rescue team remained present at the site to monitor and coordinate the operation.

Authorities said the successful rescue highlighted the importance of swift inter-departmental coordination in responding to wildlife emergencies and ensuring the safe rehabilitation of animals that stray into urban areas.
