Pune: Woman Attempts Self-Immolation At Police Station Over Inaction On Noise Pollution ComplaintÂ
A 44-year-old woman attempted self-immolation at Shirur police station on Thursday, expressing frustration over the alleged inaction of the police and school authorities regarding her noise pollution complaint. Suman S, the woman involved, poured petrol on herself in a desperate protest, claiming her complaint against a nearby school had been ignored for two months.
She stated that the loud DJ music from the school, which played as late as 10:30 p.m. on June 20, disrupted her children, who were preparing for competitive exams. When she confronted the school authorities, she was allegedly abused and assaulted. She also reported that her mobile phone was forcibly taken, and a video she had recorded of the incident was deleted. In retaliation, the school authorities filed an FIR against her.
Following her protest, the police registered an FIR against the school principal and 17 others. Additionally, the education department had previously ordered the closure of the school after an inquiry against ten educational institutions.
