Pune News: Tragic Accident On Shirur-Chaufula Highway Claims Young Life
An accident on the Shirur-Chaufula highway has claimed the life of 37-year-old Nitin Gopalbhai Patel, leaving behind a grieving family and a community in shock. The incident occurred on August 22 at 8:30 pm when Patel, who was returning home from work, failed to notice a dirt pile on the road due to the absence of reflectors. He fell from his bike and suffered a severe head injury, succumbing to his wounds before receiving treatment at a private hospital.
The funeral of the young man, who was the breadwinner of his family, was attended by his parents, wife, and two small children, leaving the citizens of the area heartbroken. The National Highway Administration has been held responsible for the tragedy, with locals demanding assistance for the family.
The Shirur-Chaufula highway, which is currently under construction by the National Highway Department, has been plagued by incomplete work and a lack of proper safety measures, including guideposts, reflectors, and boards. Despite repeated complaints from citizens, no action appears to have been taken against the contractor.
The highway, which has 10 big private hospitals and 5 big private schools, witnesses a huge rush of students and patients, making it imperative that the work is completed quickly. However, National Highway Deputy Engineer Prerna Kotkar attributed the delay to opposition to the road at some places.
The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of the incomplete road, with citizens facing a tough journey and many having been permanently disabled due to accidents. The community is demanding swift action to complete the work and ensure safety measures are in place to prevent such tragedies.
