In light of the Ganesh festival, Mumbai-Goa National Highway 66 will face traffic restrictions to ensure public safety and smooth celebrations. The restrictions will affect vehicles over 16 tons. From 8 PM on September 11 to 11 PM on September 13, heavy vehicles will be banned on the highway due to Ganesh and Gauri immersion. Similarly, from 8 AM on September 17 to 8 PM on September 18, the highway will be closed to heavy vehicles for Anant Chaturdashi and immersion.

Vehicles over 16 tons can travel from 11 PM on September 8 to 8 AM on September 11, and from 11 PM on September 13 to 8 AM on September 17. Regular traffic for these vehicles will resume after 8 PM on September 18.

Exemptions to this ban include vehicles transporting essential goods such as milk, petrol, diesel, cooking gas cylinders, liquid medical oxygen, food grains, vegetables, and perishable items. Additionally, vehicles involved in road widening, repairs, or transporting materials will not be restricted but must obtain a permit from the relevant transport authorities.

The police chiefs of Navi Mumbai and other affected districts are advised to relax restrictions for heavy vehicles as needed. Import-export cargo from JNPT and Jaigad ports will continue without interruption. These measures aim to manage traffic flow efficiently during the festive period, as directed by Additional Secretary Rajendra Holkar.
