Pune, April 9, 2026: A 37-year-old woman was left permanently paralyzed after a serious accident at a water park in Shirur taluka, raising serious concerns about safety standards and alleged negligence by the facility’s management.

The victim, Ashwini Sandeep Napte, a resident of Karandi, had visited the Jay Malhar Agro Tourism Centre in Morachi Chincholi with her family for a leisure outing. The incident occurred in the afternoon while she was coming down a water slide.

According to reports, the water level at the end of the slide was dangerously low. As a result, she failed to get a cushioning effect from the water and crashed directly onto the ground, losing consciousness on the spot. The impact caused severe spinal injuries.

She was later rushed to a hospital by her relatives, as the tourism centre reportedly lacked basic emergency medical facilities or an ambulance. Doctors revealed that four of her spinal vertebrae were fractured, leaving the lower half of her body permanently immobile.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with serious questions being raised about the park’s safety measures. Family members alleged that there were no proper precautions, guidance, or safety arrangements in place at the time of the accident.

Based on a complaint filed by a relative, a case of negligence has been registered against the owner and management of the tourism centre at Shirur Police Station.

The victim’s family has demanded strict action against the operators, accusing them of endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
