Pune, April 11, 2026: A major traffic update has been issued for commuters in the city as the heavily used Kakasaheb Gadgil Bridge (Z Bridge) connecting the Deccan area with Pune’s Peth regions will remain partially closed for repair work for one month.

The Pune District Administration has officially announced that the bridge will be closed for maintenance from April 10 to May 9. During this period, night-time traffic on the bridge will be completely restricted, while daytime movement will remain operational to ease commuter inconvenience. Citizens have been advised to use alternate routes during the closure.

The decision follows a structural audit conducted after the monsoon, which identified several bridges in Pune requiring urgent repairs. Out of 17 identified structures, repair work on the first phase—covering Khadakwasla, Sambhaji, and Dandekar bridges—has already been completed successfully. The Z Bridge now falls under the second phase of restoration work.

Officials stated that the repair involves replacement of expansion joints and bearings, which is critical for the bridge’s long-term safety. To avoid disrupting peak-hour traffic, repair work will be carried out only between 11 pm and 7 am.

According to Municipal Project Head Dinkar Gojare, the bridge sees heavy daily traffic, making night-time closure necessary to minimize congestion and ensure worker safety. Daytime access will continue, offering relief to office-goers and regular commuters.
