In a heartening move, the CEO of the Pune Ziila Parishad, travelled in a garbage van with the garbage collecting workers to understand the issues being faced by them.

The CEO, Ayush Prasad, decided to undertake the journey on Wednesday at Uruli Kanchan village and discussed challenges being faced by them.

CEO Ayush Prasad said, “I travelled with Pavan in his waste collection van and discussed a variety of challenges. Door to door waste collection has improved overall cleanliness in the village. People are motivated to pay their taxes and it is overwhelming to see that Uruli-Kanchan has collected 87 per cent of their tax this year.’’

The journey began when Ayush Prasad accompanied the garbage workers on their daily collection route. He observed the hard work and dedication put in by the workers in their job, which often goes unappreciated. The workers expressed their grievances to Ayush Prasad.

Ayush Prasad inspected Shram Dan and Garbage Free Drive and inspected infrastructure in Uruli Kanchan. ZP had sanctioned a plastic unit for the village and work related to the same will start soon. Uruli Kanchan has an active citizen group working on cleaning the village .They have been volunteering every weekend and collecting waste.

The CEO’s gesture has been appreciated by the workers and the public alike. It sends a positive message that the authorities are taking notice of the hard work put in by workers. This move by the CEO of Zilla Parishad is a shining example of the importance of understanding the issues being faced by the workers at the ground level. It is hoped that such actions will inspire others to take similar steps to improve the conditions of workers in other sectors as well.
