Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ in Uttar Pradesh, emphasized the need for a caste census, arguing that it is crucial for bringing 90% of India’s underprivileged into the mainstream. He pointed out that women from Dalit, tribal, and OBC communities are largely absent from high-profile lists like Miss India winners and top media anchors. Gandhi criticized the current government, questioning how India can be considered a superpower when such a significant portion of the population remains excluded.

He clarified that his push for a caste census is not politically motivated but is aimed at addressing the socioeconomic disparities faced by the majority of India’s population. Despite potential political repercussions, Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to this cause, which he believes is vital for the inclusion of marginalized communities.

Gandhi also reiterated his party’s promise to conduct a nationwide socio-economic caste census and expressed his determination to remove the Supreme Court’s 50% cap on reservations, reflecting the will of the people.
