Rain causes flight delays and traffic congestion at Pune Airport
Heavy rain since Sunday has wreaked havoc on travel plans for passengers flying to and from Pune Airport. Not only were several flights delayed last night due to adverse weather conditions, but passengers also encountered difficulties reaching the airport amidst waterlogging and heavy traffic congestion across the city.
Entire infrastructure of #Pune fell down with couple of hours of rain. Waterlogged streets, unmoving traffic, had to stop the cab & run the last 2km to get to the airport, which is a disaster in itself! pic.twitter.com/i4ii6hdHlX

Airlines have issued appeals to passengers, urging them to arrive at the airport two to three hours before their scheduled departure times in light of the ongoing heavy rain alert for the next few days.Â
A passenger who flew from Delhi to Pune, shared his harrowing experience, expressing relief when his flight finally landed safely amidst intense rainfall.Â

Another passenger, expressed frustration over delays in receiving parking clearance upon landing, highlighting inefficiencies at Pune Airport.
In response to Saini’s complaint, the Airport Authority of India (AAI) acknowledged adverse weather conditions causing delays and diversions at Pune Airport. Improved conditions led to a rush of arrivals, resulting in apron congestion and parking delays. The AAI apologized for any inconvenience caused.
Meanwhile, commuters traveling to Pune Airport on Sunday to pick up or drop off friends and relatives faced significant challenges due to heavy traffic congestion on Airport Road. Amit Paranjape, a citizen, described the situation as “crazy,” reporting over two hours of travel time from Deccan Gymkhana to Pune Airport, with similar delays on the return journey. Major waterlogging, especially near Lohegaon Airport and Viman Nagar areas, exacerbated the traffic situation.
Given the heavy rain alert for the next couple of days, several airlines, including Vistara Airlines, have advised customers to allow extra time for their journey to Pune Airport to avoid potential flight delays or misses. The combination of heavy rain and slow vehicle movement en route to the airport underscores the importance of planning ahead and ensuring sufficient travel time during inclement weather conditions.
