IMD Issues Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Maharashtra in Next 24 Hours
Maharashtra, October 21, 2025: This Diwali, the festive celebrations in Maharashtra may be dampened as heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), coastal Konkan, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha are likely to experience intense showers over the next four days.
The retreating southwest monsoon has been replaced by a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, creating atmospheric instability. This development is expected to trigger unseasonal rains in several parts of Maharashtra, potentially impacting Diwali celebrations. IMD has issued warnings starting from October 21.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h.
