The shell hit Thappa’s home around 5:30 am while he was inside, shortly after stepping back in following a series of loud explosions nearby. The impact reportedly caused significant destruction to his room, leading to fatal injuries.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep sorrow over the loss, highlighting Thappa’s recent involvement in high-level administrative duties. “Just yesterday, he was accompanying the Deputy CM during a visit to Rajouri and later attended an online meeting that I chaired,” Abdullah said in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). “Today, we lost a dedicated officer as his home was struck during the shelling. I’m shocked and heartbroken. May his soul rest in peace.”
