In preparation for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, educational authorities in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have adjusted school timings for Urdu and other minority language schools. The Directorate of Urdu and Other Minority Language Schools in Karnataka issued a circular modifying the timings for Urdu primary and high schools. During Ramadan, these schools will operate from 8:00 am to 12:45 pm, aligning with previous directives to allow students to observe the month without disruptions to their education.

Following suit, the Andhra Pradesh School Education Department has also announced similar adjustments for Urdu medium schools. From March 12th to April 10th, these schools will operate from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm to accommodate the Ramadan period. The decision was made in response to a representation from the Minority Teachers Association, emphasizing the need to consider students’ religious observances.

These changes aim to facilitate religious practices for students while minimizing the impact on their academic schedules. This reflects the commitment of educational authorities to support students from diverse backgrounds and uphold their right to practice their faith while pursuing their studies.

Ramadan is a holy month of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide, and these adjustments demonstrate a considerate approach to ensure students can participate in the religious observance while attending school.

In Karnataka, the circular issued by the Directorate of Urdu and Other Minority Language Schools specifies the altered timings for junior, senior, and high schools during the month of Ramadan, starting from 8 AM to 12:45 PM. The circular instructs schools to take necessary actions in implementing these changes.

Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, the School Education Department has modified the timings for Urdu medium primary, upper primary, high schools, parallel sections, and Urdu Medium DIETS across the state.

The adjusted timings, effective from March 12th to April 10th, 2024, were prompted by the appeal from the Minority Teachers Association, emphasizing that the change will not impact SSC Public Examinations or other exams. These modifications highlight the collaborative efforts to accommodate diverse religious practices within the educational system.
