Tata Consultancy Services and Rolls-Royce are working together to explore hydrogen as a sustainable aviation fuel, aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Ratan Tata’s Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has expanded its collaboration with Rolls-Royce to research and develop hydrogen fuel system technology for aviation. This underscores the potential of hydrogen as a zero-carbon aviation fuel of the future. TCS, a global leader in IT services, consulting and business solutions, will leverage its engineering expertise to address critical challenges in hydrogen fuel combustion, delivery and system integration with engines.

The partnership aims to validate all elements for safe operation, aligning with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) target for net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Alan Newby, Director of Research and Technology at Rolls-Royce, expressed enthusiasm for TCS’s involvement, highlighting their valuable role in achieving technology goals.

Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, this collaboration builds on a long-standing relationship between Rolls-Royce and the Tata Group. It includes various projects in design, manufacturing engineering, control systems, and software since 2010. The partnership reflects TCS’s commitment to driving sustainable transformation across industries and harnessing technology for positive societal impact.
