Pune: Mahavikas Aghadi CandidateĀ  Ravindra Dhangekar has been elected as the MLA of Kasba Peth assembly constituency in Maharashtra. The by-poll elections were announced following the demise of late MLA Mukta Tilak.

The election saw a neck-to-neck competition between the Congress and the BJP candidates, with Ravindra Dhangekar and Hemant Rasane contesting for the seat. However, in a surprising turn of events, Dhangekar emerged victorious with a massive margin of 11,040 votes over his opponent Hemant Rasane.

As per the official figures, Ravindra Dhangekar secured 73,194 votes, while BJP’s Hemant Rasane managed to secure 62,244 votes. The result clearly indicates that the people of Kasba Peth have put their faith in Dhangekar, who is expected to bring in a new wave of development in the constituency.

The by-poll election was closely watched by political observers and analysts, as it was seen as a litmus test for both the Congress and the BJP ahead of the state assembly elections 202. With this victory, the Congress has managed to make significant inroads in Maharashtra, while the BJP has suffered a setback.
