New Delhi: Rekha Gupta has been appointed as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, with Parvesh Verma set to take over as her deputy. Gupta will succeed Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Atishi, marking the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) return to power in Delhi after 26 years. The party secured a decisive victory in the February 5 Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Ramlila Maidan, which can accommodate up to 30,000 people. The event is expected to be attended by senior BJP leaders, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, and several prominent personalities.

BJP’s Big Comeback in Delhi

Rekha Gupta, who won the Shalimar Bagh Assembly seat, will be the only woman Chief Minister in BJP-ruled states. Meanwhile, Parvesh Verma earned the title of a ‘giant killer’ after defeating outgoing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency.

The announcement of their names was made during the BJP legislature party meeting in the capital on Wednesday. The party’s victory ended AAP’s decade-long rule, with AAP managing to secure only 22 seats, losing key constituencies such as Arvind Kejriwal’s New Delhi seat and Manish Sisodia’s Jangpura seat.
