Pandya was surprisingly named as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain before the recent mini-auction. He is supposed to succeed Rohit Sharma, under whom the Blue and Gold Brigade saw enormous success over the years in the competition.

However, as of now, things are looking bleak for ardent MI fans to see Hardik captain their favourite franchise for an entire edition.

Rohit Sharma may captain Mumbai Indians as uncertainty looms over Hardik Pandya’s return.

It was expected that Hardik Pandya would recover before the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and IPL 2024 season, but now the hope also is fading away as he is yet to heal from his injury

India’s star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been out of action following his ankle injury during the 2023 World Cup. He missed the white-ball series against Australia at home and the campaign in South Africa in December.

It was expected that Hardik would recover before the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in early January, but now the hope is fading away as he is yet to heal from his injury, says a PTI report adding that India may miss the services of the all-rounder yet again.

India will take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20I series between January 11 and 17, which will mark their final T20I assignment before the World Cup in June-July.

Hardik has been out of action since injuring his ankle during a World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune. He had missed the T20I series’ against Australia and South Africa, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the side in his absence.
