Rohit Sharma Returns to India After US Vacation, Prepares for Sri Lanka Series
Indian cricket’s veteran opener, Rohit Sharma, arrived back in India on Thursday, July 25. Accompanied by his family, Rohit was seen at Mumbai Airport after spending several weeks on vacation in the United States. As the senior batter and captain of the Indian Test and ODI teams, Rohit will soon resume his cricketing duties.
Fans warmly welcomed Rohit Sharma and his family upon their return to India. One fan commented on an X post announcing Rohit’s arrival, referring to him as “Mumbaicha Raja Rohit Sharma,” which translates to “King of Mumbai.” This affectionate nickname highlights Rohit’s strong connection to both the city of Mumbai and his role as captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
India is set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series starting August 2, with all games scheduled to be held in Colombo. This series will mark the beginning of a new chapter for the Indian cricket team under coach Gautam Gambhir. The series is significant as it introduces a new leadership structure, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having retired from T20 internationals but continuing their roles in Test and ODI formats.
The upcoming matches will also see the return of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer to the Indian squad. Prior to the ODI series, the teams will compete in a three-match T20I series, with the first match set to take place on July 27. Suryakumar Yadav will captain the Indian side in the T20I matches, ushering in a fresh era for Indian cricket.
