RTE Admissions 2026 Deadline Extended To May 8; Over 72,000 Seats Filled Across Maharashtra
Pune, May 4, 2026: The Maharashtra primary education department has extended the deadline for admissions under the 25% quota of the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026 – 27 academic year. Parents now have time until May 8 to complete the admission process.
Officials have made it clear that this is the final extension. Earlier, the deadline for document verification and confirming school allotments was April 30.
As per instructions issued by Primary Education Director Sharad Gosavi, all selected candidates must finish the required formalities, including verification of documents and confirmation of admission at their allotted schools, within the revised timeline.

Authorities said the extension has been granted to give parents one last chance to complete pending procedures. They have urged families not to delay further, as no additional extension will be provided beyond May 8.
Statewide data shows that out of 1,05,811 seats available under the RTE quota, 72,344 have already been filled. In Pune district alone, 12,518 students had secured admissions as of April 30.
The RTE quota ensures access to free education for children from economically weaker sections in private schools, and the department is pushing to complete the remaining admissions within the given timeframe.
