Mumbai/Pune, May 3, 2026
A fresh spell of unseasonal weather is set to impact Maharashtra, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for 11 districts on May 4. The warning comes amid rapidly changing weather conditions, particularly across the Vidarbha region, where thunderstorms and strong winds are expected over the next 24 hours.

According to IMD forecasts, seven districts have been placed under a Yellow Alert, while four districts are under an Orange Alert, indicating a higher level of risk. Wind speeds are likely to reach 50–60 kmph, accompanied by lightning and moderate rainfall in several areas.
Vidarbha Braces for Storm Activity
The Amravati division, including Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Washim, and Yavatmal, is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning. Temperatures in the region remain high, with maximums ranging between 41°C and 44°C.
In the Nagpur division—covering Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli—an Orange Alert has been issued. These districts are likely to experience intense thunderstorm activity, strong winds, and lightning strikes, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay alert.
Heat Persists in Konkan and Western Maharashtra
Meanwhile, the Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, will continue to experience hot and humid conditions. Maximum temperatures are expected to hover between 33°C and 35°C, with high humidity intensifying discomfort levels.
In North Maharashtra, districts such as Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar will see dry weather, with temperatures climbing up to 41°C. Afternoon heat is expected to remain severe.
The Pune division—covering Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur—will also witness hot weather conditions. Daytime temperatures are likely to range between 37°C and 40°C, prompting advisories for residents to avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.
Dry but Scorching Conditions in Marathwada
Marathwada districts, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Jalna, Latur, Dharashiv, Parbhani, Nanded, and Hingoli, are expected to remain dry but extremely hot. Temperatures may reach up to 42°C, increasing the risk of heat-related discomfort.
Public Advisory Issued
Authorities have advised citizens in affected regions to take necessary precautions, particularly in districts under Orange Alert. Residents are urged to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid sheltering under trees, and remain updated with official weather bulletins.
