Kolhapur, Sep 4 , The Sakal Maratha Samaj on Monday called for Kolhapur city ‘bandh’ on Tuesday to protest against alleged baton charge by police on Maratha reservation protesters last week in Jalna district and also to press for their demand of resignation by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister & Home minister Devendra Fadnavis owning responsibility for incident.
A decision to this effect was taken by SMS activists and representatives of other political parties including Congress, Shiv Sena (Thackeray), during the ‘Jawab Do’ (give reply) agitation held at historic Dasara Chowk here to protest against police action.
On this occasion, SMS workers and other political leaders, led by SMS district president Vasantrao Mulik, staged a demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, Mulik demanded that the state government should order a judicial inquiry of brutal lathi charge on Maratha agitators and firing in the air as well as to suspend Jalna DSP and DySP immediately.
He also demanded that Fadnavis should take moral responsibility of brutal lathi charge and resign from the post immediately.
Congress MLA Ruturaj Patil, Shiv Sena district president Vijay Devne, Sunil Modi, Ravikiran Ingavakle, Adil Faras, Gani Ajrekar, Deelip Desai and others participated in this agitation.
Meanwhile, an SMS delegation, led by district president Mulik, met District Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar and demanded to find out who was behind brutal lathi charge on agitators and to conduct an inquiry into the lathi charge immediately.
