Pune: In an effort to prioritize safety in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) campus, the administration has recently implemented a new policy requiring individuals riding motorcycles to wear helmets mandatorily. The university administration issued a notice, stating that all bike riders, including students, faculty, staff, and visitors, must comply with this regulation.

This decision aligns with the guidelines established in the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, where non-compliance with helmet usage is considered an offense punishable by law. Therefore, it is crucial for all individuals, including government and semi-government office workers, municipal corporations, municipalities, schools, colleges, government officials, employees, and citizens riding two-wheelers, to abide by this safety requirement.

To ensure strict adherence to Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, the collector’s office has issued a clear order emphasizing the gravity of any violations. In response to these directives, Dr Prafulla Pawar, SPPU registrar, has issued a circular urging all employees, students, and individuals to wear helmets while on two-wheelers within the university premises. The circular also emphasizes that failure to comply with the helmet rule will result in appropriate punishment in accordance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
