State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank, has issued an important alert for its customers. If you hold an SBI account, two dates — 16 November and 1 December — are crucial for you, as several key services faced temporary downtime and one major service is set to shut down permanently.

Temporary Service Shutdown on 16 November

On 16 November 2025, SBI temporarily suspended several digital services due to system maintenance.
Services affected included:

  • UPI
  • IMPS
  • YONO
  • Internet Banking
  • NEFT
  • RTGS

These services remained unavailable between 1:10 AM and 2:45 AM, a downtime of around 95 minutes. SBI had informed customers in advance about the scheduled maintenance.

Additionally, ATM services were also unavailable for around one hour, making cash withdrawals impossible during the maintenance window.

While this disruption was temporary, SBI has now confirmed that one of its older services will be discontinued permanently.

SBI to Permanently Shut Down mCASH From 1 December

SBI has announced that its mCASH facility will be permanently discontinued from 1 December 2025.
The bank clarified that after 30 November, customers will no longer be able to use the mCASH service via OnlineSBI or YONO Lite.

The mCASH feature allowed users to send money quickly using just a mobile number or email ID, making small-value transactions simple and convenient. However, the bank has decided to phase it out.

Why Is SBI Discontinuing mCASH?

According to SBI, the decision to discontinue mCASH is part of its effort to enhance digital transaction security. The bank stated that mCASH is an outdated method of money transfer. By retiring it, SBI aims to encourage customers to shift to more secure, advanced, and widely used platforms such as:

  • UPI
  • IMPS
  • NEFT
  • RTGS

SBI has also published this update on its official website and urged customers to make note of the change.

What Customers Should Do

  • If you rely on mCASH, switch to UPI or IMPS for small, instant payments.
  • Update your SBI apps and ensure alternative digital payment options are working.
  • Stay alert for official SBI notifications regarding service upgrades.
