Mumbai, July 8: Continuous heavy rains in Mumbai have led to the closure of schools and colleges in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane on Tuesday, July 9. The Kundalika and Kalu rivers in neighboring districts have reached dangerous levels, prompting a ‘red’ alert for very heavy rainfall.

1. School Closures: All schools and colleges in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will remain closed on July 9, 2024, to ensure student safety amid the heavy rains.
2. Navi Mumbai Holiday: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday for all government and private schools within its jurisdiction on July 9, as per the NMMC Education Department orders.
3. Raigad District:Due to the red alert for heavy rain in Raigad, the district collector’s office has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges on July 9.
4. Thane District: The Thane District Council has also announced a holiday for schools on July 9 in response to the heavy rain warning by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
5. Rivers Near Danger Mark: The Kundalika River in Raigad and the Kalu River in Thane are nearing their danger marks, with water levels reported at 22.5 meters and 101.1 meters, respectively.
6. IMD Red Alert: The IMD has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall in Mumbai today, July 8. Severe waterlogging and disruptions in railway and flight services have been reported since morning.
7. Rainfall in Mumbai: Mumbai recorded 101.8 mm of rainfall in nine hours on Monday, significantly higher than its suburbs. The Colaba weather station registered 101.8 mm from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, while the Santacruz station recorded 14.8 mm in the same period.

9. Central Railway Disruptions: Central Railway services have faced significant disruptions due to waterlogging, despite the installation of high-capacity pumps. Local trains were halted, and many out-station trains to Mumbai were stranded.
10. Weather Alerts: Raigad and Ratnagiri districts are also likely to experience very heavy rains today, with the Met Department issuing a red alert for these areas as well.
