Self-Styled ‘Miracle Baba’ Arrested in Pune for Alleged Fraud and Exploitation
Pune, April 25, 2026: A self-proclaimed spiritual healer accused of deceiving followers through so-called “miracles” has been arrested by police, triggering concern across social and political circles.
The accused, identified as Manohar Bhosale, also known as “Manohar Mama,” was taken into custody by Solapur Rural Police from the Manjari area of Pune. He had been on the radar of authorities following a case registered against him in Kurduwadi police station in Solapur district.
According to investigators, Bhosale allegedly misled people by claiming supernatural abilities, including accurately predicting currency note serial numbers, which drew large crowds of followers. Police allege that he exploited faith to extract money from devotees and engaged in financial misconduct, with some complaints also pointing to exploitation of women.
The case came to light after a complainant accused Bhosale of demanding ₹2 lakh for performing rituals to ensure business success. The victim reportedly paid ₹50,000 before realising it was a fraud and approaching the police. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under provisions related to cheating and anti-superstition laws.
Police officials confirmed that a team led by Inspector Atul Mohite tracked Bhosale using technical intelligence and carried out a raid in Pune to apprehend him. He is currently being interrogated, and officials expect more details to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are also examining claims that several influential individuals, including politicians and senior officials, had visited his gatherings seeking personal or professional gains. These allegations have intensified scrutiny around the case.
The arrest has renewed calls for stricter action against fraudulent godmen and greater public awareness to prevent exploitation in the name of faith. Further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged network and financial irregularities.
