Maharashtra Weather Update For January 19: Cold Wave to Return, IMD Issues Alert for Several Districts
Maharashtra is bracing for an intense cold wave between December 9 and 11, with minimum temperatures expected to dip to nearly 7°C across several districts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Authorities have urged citizens to take precautions as cold conditions are set to intensify mid-week.
On December 10, Mumbai and its suburbs will witness a noticeable drop in temperature. The city is likely to experience clear skies with minimum temperatures around 15°C, while similar conditions are expected across the Konkan region.
In Pune and western Maharashtra, the cold wave will be more severe. Pune is forecast to record a minimum temperature of 8°C, dropping further to 7°C over the next two days. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Pune and Solapur, urging residents to prepare for harsh winter conditions.
North Maharashtra will experience widespread cold, with Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik and Ahmednagar expected to face significant temperature drops. Nashik may touch 7°C, while Jalgaon could see the mercury fall to 6°C, making it one of the coldest districts.
In Marathwada, cold conditions continue with chilly mornings and nights paired with sharp daytime sunlight. A Yellow Alert has been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed and Parbhani for December 10.
In Vidarbha, the cold wave weakened slightly after Yavatmal, Gondia and Nagpur experienced chills on December 9. No cold wave is expected on December 10 across Vidarbha districts. Nagpur’s temperature may fall to 9°C, while Amravati is likely to record 11°C.
With the cold wave warning active until December 11, the administration has appealed to citizens to stay warm, especially vulnerable groups like senior citizens and children. Residents are advised to limit exposure during early mornings and late nights as temperatures continue to drop across the state.
