Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have landed in legal trouble after an FIR was registered against them in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, in connection with an alleged fraud involving Hyundai cars.
The complaint was filed by local resident Kirti Singh, who claimed that the Hyundai vehicle he purchased had technical defects from the very first day. Despite repeated complaints, Singh alleges the company did not resolve the issue. He further stated that his decision to buy the car was influenced by advertisements featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, both of whom endorse the brand.
Acting on a private complaint in Bharatpur’s CJM Court No. 2, the court directed the Mathura Gate Police Station to register a case. The FIR has been lodged under Section 420 (cheating) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are currently underway.
Shah Rukh Khan has been associated with Hyundai India since 1998 and has launched several of its flagship cars, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at Auto Expo 2023. Deepika Padukone joined the brand as an ambassador in December 2023, recently appearing with Shah Rukh in campaigns for the 2024 Hyundai Creta.
Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, endorsers can be held accountable if a product they promote is found misleading or defective. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has the authority to penalize brand ambassadors in such cases.
While the legal case unfolds, both actors remain focused on their film projects. Shah Rukh Khan is preparing for his much-talked-about film King, slated for release in 2027, co-starring Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, and Suhana Khan.
So far, neither Shah Rukh Khan’s nor Deepika Padukone’s representatives have issued a response to the FIR.
