Amid the growing fuel crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens to reduce fuel consumption and adopt energy-saving measures. Addressing a programme in Gujarat on Monday night, Modi also urged schools to temporarily conduct online classes to help reduce travel and fuel usage.

Highlighting the impact of the international crisis on India, the Prime Minister said the country must ensure that its development is not affected by the current global situation. He appealed to people to use public transport, prefer work from home wherever possible, and avoid unnecessary fuel consumption.

Modi also encouraged Indians living abroad to bring at least five foreign friends or relatives to India, saying it would help boost the country’s growth and tourism sector.

Speaking about lifestyle changes, the Prime Minister advised citizens to avoid extravagant foreign travel and destination weddings during the summer holidays. He said people should explore tourist destinations within India instead of spending foreign exchange abroad.

“Is there no place in India where we can spend holidays or celebrate weddings? There can be no place more sacred than India for marriage ceremonies. If weddings are held on this soil, people will receive the blessings of their ancestors,” Modi said.

Reiterating the need for fuel conservation, he added:

“Wherever possible, reduce the use of petrol and diesel. Use metro services, electric buses, and public transport. Those who own cars should encourage carpooling. EV owners should help others. Digital technology has made everything easier. Government and private offices should prioritise virtual meetings and work from home. I also appeal to schools to arrange online classes for some time.”

The Prime Minister said the central government is taking all necessary steps to tackle the energy crisis and appealed for collective public cooperation to protect the country’s economic growth.
