Tension was there in Ramtekdi after a gang of young boys went on the rampage on Wednesday between 2 and 2:30 am, damaging at least 22 cars with stones along a 200-meter stretch from Vande Mataram Chowk to Saibaba temple.

The young boys damaged three handcarts, a bakery’s CCTV cameras, and a police cruiser with stones. They even threw stones at passing cars and houses.

Locals reported that the young boys had damaged a tempo, three autorickshaws, fifteen bikes, and three cars. They pleaded with the police to punish the vandals severely, step up patrols, and station officers at four key intersections in order to stop similar incidents from happening again.

While fewer cars were vandalized, a police van was attacked with stones, according to a senior police officer. Nine young boys vandalized cars for no apparent reason. Two of them, who are both 17 years old, are in custody. Three other boys’ identities have been confirmed, and they have organized a police squad to track down the remaining boys who are evading capture.

The police officer went on to say that Ramtekdi is experiencing a calm situation. In order to aid police in solving the case, they have made an appeal to the locals to keep the peace and to report any information regarding the vandals. They have filed a vandalism complaint under the Indian Penal Code.

According to a social activist, the majority of young boys steal small items and are dependent on drugs and alcohol. They have thrown stones at houses and moving cars, vandalized vehicles, and imposed a reign of terror. To strengthen security in Ramtekdi, they would be giving the Wanowrie police a memorandum.

According to a local, vandals broke into his motorcycle and tempo that were parked outside his home. The incident has cost him 500 rupees, a day’s earnings. If the vandals are not stopped, they would start a campaign against the police.
