In an unfortunate incident in a Kerala village, a German couple, aiming to stay at a homestay near the forests, were misguided by Google Maps, ending up at the wrong house in Erumely.

The tourists, Julian and Laureen, found themselves lost and stranded due to an incorrect listing on Google Maps. They reached Erumeli Tumarampara by car from Ernakulam and found this house by searching the school. The confusion arose as they were searching for Haneefa Homes but reached Mohammed Shameer’s house instead.

Local residents, unable to communicate with the tourists, sought assistance from ward member Binoy Elavumkal to resolve the mix-up.

Mohammed Shameer clarified that his residence was mistakenly marked as “Haneefa’s Homestay” on Google Maps, leading to the confusion. Panchayat member Benoy is now tasked with rectifying the homestay tag on Haneefa’s address in Google Maps.

This incident echoes a similar occurrence in January in Gudalur, Tamil Nadu, where an SUV driver, following Google Maps directions, found himself stuck on a steep flight of stairs in a residential area. Local residents and police assisted in safely manoeuvring the SUV back to the main road.
