Pune, November 28, 2025: Tension gripped the Pune-Mumbai Old Highway near Somatane Phata on Thursday after a group of habitual offenders opened fire at police officers during a high-speed chase. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Crime Branch Unit Two was pursuing the suspects after receiving information about an attempted house break-in.

Accused Fire At Police During Chase

As the Crime Branch team closed in, the suspects realised they were being followed. In an attempt to escape, one of the offenders fired a shot at the police using a country-made pistol. Despite the life-threatening situation, the officers continued the chase without hesitation.

No injuries were reported, and after a determined pursuit, police successfully apprehended all three accused, bringing the incident under control.

Three Habitual Offenders, Over 30 Cases Each

The arrested suspects have been identified as:

  • Sanising Papasing Dudhani
  • Jalsing Rajputsing Dudhani
  • Manish Babulal Kushwaha

All three are repeat offenders with more than 30 serious cases registered against each of them. Their arrest is considered a significant achievement for the police due to their extensive criminal history.

Arms, Jewellery and Tools Seized

The Crime Branch recovered a substantial amount of material from the accused, including:

  • Two country-made pistols
  • Seven live cartridges
  • Gold and silver jewellery
  • Tools used for housebreaking
  • A four-wheeler used in the crime

Senior Officials Oversee Successful Operation

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Joint Commissioner Sarang Avhad, DCP Shivaji Pawar, and ACP Vishal Hire.

Inspector Arvind Pawar and his team—Salunkhe, Gaware, Kudale, Rathod, Shete, Chavan, Nadaf, Shitole, Said, Rane, Gawade, Jadhav and others—played a crucial role in the chase and arrests. Their quick and courageous response has earned widespread appreciation for curbing criminal activity on the busy highway.
