Singapore has recalled Everest Fish Curry Masala imported from India due to elevated levels of ethylene oxide, a chemical deemed unsuitable for human consumption.

The Singapore Food Agency issued the recall after the Centre for Food Safety in Hong Kong flagged the presence of ethylene oxide in the product exceeding permissible limits. While ethylene oxide is permitted for sterilizing spices in Singapore, the levels found in the masala pose a potential health risk.

Importer SP Muthiah & Sons Pte. Ltd. has been instructed to initiate the recall as ethylene oxide is strictly prohibited in food items.

Although commonly used as a pesticide, its presence above certain levels in food products is prohibited due to health concerns. The Singapore Food Agency advised consumers who have consumed the product and have health concerns to seek medical advice and contact their point of purchase for inquiries.

Everest has not issued any official statement regarding the recall.
