A tribute will be offered to the late Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe through the festival. 

Pune 25 November 2025 : Renowned vocalist and disciple of the late Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Atul Khandekar, through his Soor Mahatee Foundation, is set to organize the Soor Mahatee Mahotsav on November 29 and 30. The festival will be held at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch, Swargate, commencing at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, and at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 30. The festival is free and open to all and free entry passes will be available from Saturday, 22nd November 2025, at the Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha in Kothrud, Tilak Smarak Mandir on Tilak Road, Pune Marathi Granthalaya in Narayan Peth and Grahak Peth on tilak road.

On the occasion of the birth centenary year of Guru Padma Jaymala Shiledar, the short film ‘Parijat Phulala’ will be showcased and inaugurated during the festival.

Atul Khandekar said, “We organize Soor Mahatee Festival every year to pay tribute to my guru Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe. On this occasion, we try to bring the contribution of the late Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe to classical music, and the tradition of promoting music passed down from Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, to a wider audience of listeners and students of music.” Additionally, this year is also the birth centenary year of my another musical guru Padma Shri Jaymala Shiledar, and on this occasion, the Soor Mahatee Foundation has produced the short film ‘Parijat Phulala’ which will be screened and inaugurated during this year’s festival, Khandekar added.

The first day of performances will feature Yadnesh Raikar, disciple and son of renowned violinist Guru Pandit Milind Raikar. Following this, classical singing by USA based Rachana Bodas, a disciple of Pandit Kashinath Bodas and Dr. Veena Sahasrabuddhe, will take place. The first day will conclude with classical vocal by senior Gwalior and Kirana Gharana vocalist Pandit Vinayak Torvi.

The second day of the festival will open with a vocal recital by Atul Khandekar, followed by a Kathak performance by Devesh Mirchandani, disciple of Padma Bhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj. On this occasion, the short film ‘Parijat Phulala’, produced by Soor Mahati Foundation in tribute to Guru Padma Shri Jaymala Shiledar, will be screened and inaugurated. The second day of the festival will conclude with a performance of senior vocalist Dr. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande.

Artists will be accompanied by Leeladhar Chakradev, Pranav Gurav, Shubham Khandalkar, Kaushik Kelkar, Anirudha Joshi, Sunil Avachat, Shruti Patki, Suyog Kundalkar and Bharat Kamat. The festival will be anchored by Swanand Patwardhan.

Dr. Sanjeev Shende will be honoured with a citation for his special contribution to the field of music, and the organisation Surbhi Seva Parivar, which is devoted to cow service, will also be felicitated with a citation at the festival.
